ALERT: Scam asking for pre-paid credit cards

Dear Pembina Co-op Members and Valued Customers,

There has been a recent increase of telemarketing scams reported by our members whereby a person claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) states that you have an outstanding balance which must be paid immediately and can be done so using pre-paid credit cards, such as the VISA PayPower® re-loadable cards.  THIS IS A KNOWN SCAM by the authorities and the CRA has released this bulletin on the matter:

As a precaution, Pembina Co-op has ordered the immediate removal of all VISA PayPower® re-loadable cards from our shelves for the interim until we have received further clarification on the matter.

If you feel that you have been a victim of this fraud, or would like to know more on how you can help protect yourself from such scams, please contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/ or at 1-888-495-8501.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

The Management at Pembina Consumers Co-op (2000) Ltd.
