Manitou Food Store Closure

Manitou Food Store Closure

The Manitou food operations have been operating at a loss since 2005.  At first, these losses were relatively small and the service could be justified through the strong member support of the Co-op’s other commodity lines.  Each year, these losses have gradually increased as the sales volume remained constant while expenses increased due to the effects of inflation.  During the past 5 years, these losses have escalated to over $100,000 each year.  The Board and Management have made the difficult decision to close the Manitou Food store.  We will continue to operate as normal until November 16th.  After that, we will discontinue to offer the flyer and will begin to wind down our operations and sell off the inventory.  Our customers will have the first opportunity to purchase the inventory at discounted prices until the store closes on December 8th.

You are invited to attend an information meeting on November 7th where we will provide more detailed information on why it was necessary to make this decision.  The meeting will be held at 7:30 pm at the Legion Hall.  We understand the disappointment and the anger that will be felt throughout the community on this closure and feel that it is critical that our members understand the facts behind the decision.  We hope that you are able to attend the meeting.
