$25,000 Donation: La Rivière & Cmnty. Rec. Ctr.

22 SEPT 2015, La Rivière, Manitoba –– Co-op is giving back to the La Rivière community by providing $25,000 in funding for the La Rivière & Community Recreational Centre for some drainage, landscaping and building enhancement works as part of the Co-op Community Spaces program.

Co-op Community Spaces is a new funding program, launched this past spring, donating $1 million this year to fund 16 projects related to recreation, environmental conservation and urban agriculture across Western Canada. The program provides between $25,000 and $100,000 in funding for eligible projects. Applications were received between April 1 and May 15 and reviewed for various criteria, including environmental impacts, community need and accessibility.

"We are extremely thankful to have been selected", said Evelyn Janzen, Chairperson of the La Rivière & Community Recreational Association.  Along with thanking all of the volunteers, contributors and donors, special thanks were extended to Cindy Kozak for the preparation of the project and submission of the application.   Ms. Janzen expressed that "the project itself has three major objectives: to improve access and safety, to protect the foundation of the building ... and to provide an outdoor meeting and seating area in a park-like setting."

Dale Pouteau, General Manager of Pembina Co-op presented the donation to the association.  Mr. Pouteau acknowledged the importance of volunteers in small communities and stated that “it is good to see a community like this one get the support.”  “Co-op continues to make life better by investing in our local economy and giving back with programs such as Co-op Community Spaces.

The ground breaking for this project is expected to start in the Spring of 2016.
